Compilation of Greening Case Studies

This collection presents the analysis of greening initiatives and best practices implemented within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Belgium, Cyprus, Italy, Romania, and Turkey. Compiled as part of the GreenUS project under the Erasmus+KA220-HED framework, it provides concrete examples of how sustainability practices can be effectively integrated into university systems. These case studies offer adaptable models that can be replicated in different educational and geographical settings. The collection features three types of initiatives:

  • Greening Activities in University Curricula: Practices that incorporate climate education and sustainability initiatives within mainstream university curricula.
  • Innovative Pedagogical Tools: Approaches that enhance the environmental sustainability of teaching and learning methodologies.
  • Training for Professors and Researchers: Initiatives designed to train university staff on integrating greening practices into academic content and research.

The case studies were selected to provide a comprehensive overview of practices that enhance greening education in higher education, with a focus on their adaptability in various contexts. The selection criteria were:

  • Diverse Contexts: Practices from a range of geographical and educational settings, ensuring they can be applied or adapted elsewhere.
  • Replicability: Practices that can be implemented in different environments without being overly dependent on unique local conditions.
  • Innovation: Emphasis on practices featuring innovative pedagogical approaches or tools, such as active collaboration with external stakeholders.
  • Impact: Identification of the target groups (primary and secondary) and a clear description of how they were affected, with a preference for initiatives that include some form of impact monitoring.

The analysis was carried out using a questionnaire that focused on four main areas: general overview, pedagogical approach, impact, and transferability.
